What are the Qualifications and Requirements?

Anyone 18 years of age or older with good customer service skills and a professional appearance.

Physical requirements may include carrying up to 15 pounds, walking up and down staircases easily without assistance, standing until each show begins or until released from duty on sold out events, and the ability to read tickets in low lighting. Ushers are expected to arrive to assigned shows on time, stay through the entire performance and complete all assigned tasks.

What is the Time Commitment?

Ushers are needed at most ticketed events at the Peabody Auditorium and Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell. This would include concerts, Broadway shows, comedy shows and seasonal outdoor events during the summer. We ask for a commitment of 15-25 shows per year and we expect all volunteers to come on their assigned days. You can count on being with us approximately 4-5 hours per show.

What are the Basic Duties of a Volunteer Usher?

Our ushers play a vital role in creating a positive guest experience at the Peabody Auditorium and Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell. They provide general information about the venues they are volunteering at, assist with seating and ticketing issues, and ensure that late seating policies are properly followed. Ushers are also responsible for distributing and collecting programs and inserts, as well as helping to enforce the event-specific camera and recording policies. They remain attentive at all times, promptly notifying management of any guest needs or emergency situations. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

What is the Dress Code?

All volunteers must strictly follow the dress code to maintain a professional appearance and ensure they are easily identifiable to patrons; those not properly attired will not be allowed to work. Women must wear black slacks, a white blouse or shirt with a closed collar, a black blazer, black closed-toe shoes, and will be provided with a crosstie and an usher badge; men must wear black slacks, a white collared shirt, a black blazer, black shoes, and will be provided with a bowtie and an usher badge.

All ushers must wear their badge on the blazer and bring their own small flashlight, used only to light the path ahead (especially on stairs and in the balcony) and never pointed at guests or hidden behind the back.
